Let’s be real – 90% of our couples tell us they’re camera shy. And if that’s you, you’re not alone! We get it – being in front of a camera all day can sound a little intimidating. But trust us, by the time the wedding rolls around, it’s not going to be the thing you’re stressing about anymore. That’s where we come in.
Before the big day, we spend time getting to know you. It’s super important for us to build a real relationship with you so that, by the time we show up on the wedding morning, we’re more like friends than strangers with cameras. Mitch has this contagious laugh (and he’s big on dad jokes!) – it’s an instant icebreaker. By the time the formalities kick off, any tension is long gone.
One thing Mitch loves is just blending into the background. Especially during all the formalities – the vows, speeches, and big moments – you’ll hardly notice the camera is even there to be camera shy. And honestly, most of the time, you’re going to be so caught up in the moment, in each other, that you’ll forget you’re even being filmed. That’s when the most genuine, beautiful moments shine through.
The best advice we can give? Just be yourself. We’re never going to push you into awkward poses or moments that don’t feel authentic to you. Every couple has their own unique love language, and that’s what we want to capture. Whether you’re silly, romantic, or laid-back, we’re here to tell your story, not something forced or staged. That’s how the real magic comes through in the film.
Hear It From Our Couples
Emily & Zoe felt exactly the same way at first, but here’s what they had to say after the day:
Mitch is just the best. The most amazing person, he was the best addition to our day. The perfect balance of fun and serious and was just what we needed. We wish we could have him as a guest! And even though we haven’t formally met Camelia, she is amazing to speak to over email, so responsive and just lovely. Thanks so much guys!!!! – Emily & Zoe
Similarly, Sheridan & Lachlan were on the fence about hiring a videographer at first. But after the wedding, they couldn’t have been happier with their decision:
Time really does fly… (almost) 6 months ago, Mitch Hickman filmed our wedding. Hiring a videographer was something we were on the fence about….however, if you’re on the fence too, jump over it! You WANT a videographer, and you want Mitch Hickman. Mitch and Camelia are a dream team. The communication leading up to the day was seamless, and having Mitch there on the day was a godsend. I was very anxious on the big day, but Mitch was so easygoing & brought the good vibes, helping everyone to relax and have fun. The video that came back as a result absolutely surpassed all expectations. Mitch & Camelia couldn’t have created a better film for us. People have commented that it feels like watching a movie trailer, and that’s exactly what we wanted – a movie trailer to show the highlights of the best day of our lives. Watching it back 6 months later, it still brings us to tears, putting us right back there, re-living all the emotion of the day, over again. We are so grateful to have this film to treasure forever. – Sheridan & Lachlan
Tips for Camera Shy Couples
We totally get it – video can be nerve-wracking. But here’s the thing: once you surrender to the moment and just enjoy your day, you’ll be amazed at how natural it feels. Trust us, by the time you see the final film, you’ll be blown away by how it all comes together. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Trust the process: We spend time before the wedding getting to know you so that when the big day comes, it doesn’t feel like there’s a stranger with a camera following you around. By the time we arrive, we’re there to capture, not intrude.
- Focus on each other: You’re marrying your best friend – let that be your focus. Forget about the camera and just enjoy each other. Whether you’re laughing, crying, or just taking it all in, we’re there to catch those real moments as they happen.
- Let us blend in: Mitch works best when he’s just blending into the background. There will be moments where you won’t even realize you’re being filmed because you’re wrapped up in the emotions of the day. That’s when the most candid and beautiful shots come through.
- We’re always here to chat: If you’re really concerned about how the day will flow or how being on camera will feel, never hesitate to call us! We’re always here for a chat or even a FaceTime session to help ease those nerves. We want you to feel comfortable and confident, not just in front of the camera, but throughout the entire experience.
